Autumn Glorias – Vivaldi & Poulenc

Immerse yourself in the glories of "Autumn" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons and the maestro's classic Gloria with full chorus, soloists and orchestra.   Do not miss soprano April Joy Gutierrez and mezzo Mary Ann McCormick interpreting Ernest Chausson's lush songs Poëme de l'amour et de la mer and Chanson perpétuelle; Mélodies, and the glorious finale, that energetic and popular tour de force, Francis Poulenc's Gloria.  A free lecture precedes the concert and a dessert reception follows.

Handel: Messiah

This seasonal favorite elicits standing ovations each year!  Returning artists will be soprano Amy Van Roekel, mezzo Rosa Maria Pascarella, and baritone Lester Lynch.  The Pro Cantare also welcomes Metropolitan Opera tenor Mark Schowalter who made his Columbia debut in 2004.  Members of the festival orchestra will join the Columbia Pro Cantare Chorus in an electrifying performance of this seasonal masterpiece.  A free lecture precedes the concert and refreshments will be served at intermission.  Order early ... The Chamber Singers will perform their eighth annual concert of Christmas music, some familiar,  mostly sung a cappella, featuring Britten's delightful Ceremony of Carols for harp and chorus.  Be inspired by the sound of 30 voices selected from the Pro Cantare for their musicianship and vocal blend as well as the settings, especially chosen for their fine acoustics.

J.M. Kraus Vranicky: The Vienna Connection: Great Mass in C Minor

Mark the 250th birthday of that musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) and two of his contemporaries with performances of Mozart's stunning Great Mass in C Minor, K. 427 and choral and instrumental works by Joseph Martin Kraus (1756-1792), the "Swedish Mozart," and Pavel Vranicky (1756-1808), the Moravian master.  Come and discover the connections between these three talented and recognized composers and the role played by imperial Vienna.

A Celebration of Celtic Music

The season finale returns to the successful Celtic theme of 2003 and will feature a broad selection of vocal, choral and instrumental music from Ireland, Scotland and other Celtic lands.   Irish composer Mary McAuliffe is writing a commissioned piece, the third part of a trilogy on the Great Famine of the 1840s, focusing on the settling of Irish immigrants in America.  Join fiddler Rosie Shipley, other traditional and classical musicians, the CPC chorus and soloists for a grand and glorious evening.  A free lecture precedes the concert and a dessert reception follows.  This concert sold out in 2003 so get your tickets early!
