Charles Reid, Tenor
Charles Reid, tenor, is quickly becoming known in the most prestigious
circles of classical music making. In the 2001-2002 season he
celebrated debuts at Waco Opera (Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia),
and at San Francisco Opera (Moser in Die Meistersinger). A
regular on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera, he returned for their
productions of L'enfant et les sortileges (Tenor Animal), and
War and Peace (Prince Andrei's Orderly). On the concert stage he
sang the Verdi Requiem with the Fairfax Choral Society, and he
returned to Columbia Pro Cantare for their annual Messiah.
Mr. Reid will be busy at the Metropolitan Opera for much of the
2002-2003 season, appearing in their productions of Parsifal (4th
Esquire), Turandot (Pong), and View from the Bridge
(Tony), and he will cover roles in Les Troyens, and
Midsummer Night's
Dream.
Career highlights include his 1998
Metropolitan Opera debut in Richard Strauss' Capriccio, as well
as debuts at Opera Carolina (Pang in Turandot), Connecticut Opera
(Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni), Opera Francais de New York
(Alphonse in Zampa), and Glimmerglass Opera (Lennie in Of Mice
and Men). Mr. Reid's outstanding musicianship and beautiful
voice are frequently in demand for concert performances, including
Messiah at Carnegie Hall, Messiah Festival (Independence, MO),
Columbia Pro Cantare, and the Masterwork Chorus (NJ); Creation
(Southwest Florida Symphony), and performances with Washington Bach
Consort, Maryland Handel Festival, Mostly Mozart Festival (Lincoln
Center), Fuma Sacra, Spoleto Festival USA, Central City Opera, Paul Hill
Chorale, Galveston Symphony, Houston Masterworks Chorus, Cathedral
Choral Society, and the Western Maryland Symphony. He has won
numerous prestigious awards including the 1997 Richard Tucker Music
Foundation Jacobson Study Grant, Grand Prize Winner of both the Florida
Grand Opera YPO Competition and the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition,
the Loren L. Zachary National Voice Competition and New Jersey State
Opera International Vocal Competition. |
